Reflection

Reflecting on my semester in design principles classes, it has been a journey of exploration and growth. In exercise 1, where we learned about design principles, I delved into the fascinating world of gestalt theory, emphasis, and harmony & unity. It was eye-opening to discover how these principles shape the visual composition and communication of design. I had never realized the depth and impact they have until now.

Moving on to project 1, the self-portrait assignment allowed me to express my unique artistic vision. Designing a self-portrait was a chance to delve into my own interests and convey them through the visual elements and principles we had learned. It was an introspective process that pushed me to reflect on who I am as an artist and how I wanted to represent myself.

In project 2, the sense of place assignment challenged me to apply the design principles to convey the essence of a chosen location. It was a captivating exercise in using design elements to capture the mood, atmosphere, and identity of a place. This project highlighted the importance of thoughtful design choices in evoking specific emotions and creating a sense of connection between the viewer and the location.

Lastly, the final project proved to be a daunting yet rewarding endeavor. Selecting one goal from the UNSDG and creating a design work inspired by it required deep analysis and creativity. It was a chance to utilize the design principles in a meaningful way, addressing global challenges through visual storytelling. This project pushed me to think critically and communicate ideas visually, merging my design skills with my passion for making a positive impact.

Overall, my semester in design principles classes has broadened my understanding of design and its principles. It has allowed me to explore my own artistic interests, develop my visual communication skills, and tackle real-world issues through design. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow as a designer, and I am excited to continue applying these principles in my future creative endeavors.
